Half of teachers disciplined for sexual misconduct in South Korea appear to have returned to classrooms.

According to documents submitted by the education ministry to a National Assembly committee on Wednesday, a total of 231 teachers were disciplined for sexual harassment during the period from January 2011 to the end of 2014.

However, half of those charged were slapped with light disciplinary measures, such as a reduction of salary or a simple reprimand and then allowed to continue in their positions.

Ruling Saenuri Party lawmaker Han Sun-Kyo, a member of the parliamentary committee, has asserted that the students could be under high risk to be victims of repeated abuses by theteachers who were charged with misconduct.
