[K-MOVE] 'Nakhwajang' Art Technique

A searing hot iron is skimming hanji, Korea's traditional handmade paper.

Every move of the hot iron creates natural colors and shapes that cannot be drawn with brushes and paints.

The art technique of drawing paintings with the hot iron and the holder of the technique are both called "Nakhwajang".

The Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) has recently designated "Nakhwajang" as the nation's Intangible Cultural Heritage.

At the same time, the CHA has named craft master Kim Young-Jo, who has practiced Nakhwajang for decades since his early 20s, as the holder of the art technique.

The "Nakhwajang" drawings are known to require a great deal of concentration and highly exquisite hand movements.

Kim was invited to the International Art Prize Biennale of Asolo in Italy in 2012 and introduced the artistic values of "Nakhwajang" to the global art world.
