It's a remote mountainous village in South Korea's eastern Gangwon Province.

A drone is flying high in the sky over the village.

This is a "drone postman".

Seen underneath the drone postman is a weighty package.

The drone successfully delivered a five-kilogram package in just six minutes. The courier service by a human postman takes more than 30 minutes, according to the Korea Post.

Developed with Korea's indigenous technology, the unmanned aerial vehicle does not need to be steered any further once it is input with data about its destination for the aerial delivery.

Last year, the drone successfully completed its delivery services along coastal areas and downtown streets as well.

"It takes a lot of time and pain for us (to carry out courier services) for those who live on steep and high mountain slopes and ridges. Drones will help us a lot if they do so on our behalf."

The postal agency has succeeded in the drone's trial flight for the courier service but it said that additional technical solutions are required for the vehicle's commercial services.

The Korea Post aims to have its drone project in full swing by 2021.
