Have you ever imagined a USB device that can be implanted in your body?

A South Korean research team has developed a resistive random access memory (RRAM) device which uses glucose and can be implanted in the body.

Water is sprayed over the newly developed device on the wrist, and the device vanished in less than 10 minutes.

The new device was completely dissolved after 36 hours.

The decomposition of the new glucose-based RRAM memory device is possible as it is made of glucose and magnesium both of which are not harmful to the human body.

The research team has developed a film made of glucose and put it in between layers of magnesium to create the "next-generation data storage device".

"Our team came up with an idea that glucose can be used not as a sensor substance but as a film for a semiconductor device. The metal layers (for the device) are made of bio-friendly magnesium. (The device) is naturally dissolved and absorbed completely into the human body after working for a certain period of time."

This newly fabricated RRAM device is expected to be most used in the health care industry.

In addition, it is expected that this research can provide meaningful insights for developing the future bioelectronic devices.
