U.S. statistics show that nearly 180,000 illegal immigrants of South Korean decent are reportedly living in the United States.

According to Pew Research Center, a Washington-based fact tank, South Korea was in 8th place when it comes to the number of unauthorized immigrants in the country.

Mexico topped the list, with an estimated population of 5.85 million. The figures are of the year 2012.

The data also revealed that the number of illegal South Korean immigrants stood at around 160,000 in 1995 and declined to 110,000 in 2000.

However, the number rose to 150,000 in 2005 and then to 180,000 in 2007.

Earlier this year, the South Korean Embassy in Washington reported an estimate of 230,000 unauthorized Korean immigrants in the United States.
