The government is on a full alert as its number-based identification system for online users, the Internet Personal Identification Numbers (I-PIN), has been hacked.

The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs said on Thursday that it has confirmed the hackers used Chinese software to issue 750,000 numbers from 2,000 local servers between Feb. 28 to March 2.

No financial damage from the hacking has been reported, with all of the recently issued numbers deleted.

I-PIN is an alternative identification system for financial transactions and online website registration verifications.
