Images released by the North Korean government has shown the moment Kim Jong-un's powerful uncle Jang Song-thaek was dramatically arrested at a party meeting on Sunday.
The footage released by North Korea's state media shows two security officers removing the country' second-in-command from the audience of a Workers' Party Politburo meeting.
The 67-year-old was branded a 'capitalist' and accused of gambling, corruption and womanizing as well as anti-state activities. Reports also emerged that two of Jang's closest aides were publicly executed last month.
Jang was a mentor to the young leader and was widely seen as the most powerful figure in the regime after Kim.
Analysts say the purge of his own uncle is a message to those within the government that any challenge to Kim would be punished.
