## storyline

In recent weeks a clip of a tractor shaking orange trees in Spain has gained thousands of retweets and likes on social media, but on the streets of orange-producing Valencia it seems less out of the ordinary.

During the months of January and February, tractors can be seen on the streets of Valencia intensively shaking trees and catching the bitter oranges in giant plastic nets.

There are 12 thousand such trees across the city and between 350 and 400 tons of oranges are taken each year, Urban Ecology office of Valencia city council told Reuters.

Bitter oranges hanging from trees are not fit for human consumption and the picked-up fruits are destined to make compost.
