교통사고 현장에서 실종된 반려견과 19일만에 재회

교통사고로 실종됐던 반려견과 19일 만에 재회한 여성의 사연이 화제가 되고 있다.

지난 8월 17일, 미국 콜로라도주의 산악 도로를 지나던 지프 한 대가 절벽에서 추락하는 사고가 났다. 차 안에는 사만다 오어와 반려견 벤틀리, 그리고 엄마 제니퍼 오어가 타고 있었다.

이 사고로 운전대를 잡았던 엄마 제니퍼 오어가 숨지고 딸 사만다 오어는 크게 다쳐 헬기로 긴급 후송됐다. 그러나 함께 타고 있던 반려견 벤틀리는 발견되지 않았다.

사고 이후 사만다의 가족과 친구들은 실종된 벤틀리를 찾아 나섰지만 발견했다는 사람이 없었고, 결국 페이스북에 Bring Bentley home '벤틀리를 집으로' 프로젝트를 만들어 도움을 요청했다.

벤틀리의 안타까운 사연이 공유되면서 벤틀리를 찾는 수색팀에 합류하는 자원봉사자도 늘었다.
그리고 지난 8월 26일 병원에서 퇴원한 사만다도 사고가 났던 도로 주변에서 벤틀리를 찾는 수색팀에 합류했고 기적이 일어났다.

BENTLEY HAS BEEN RESCUED!

This guy has been what can only be compared to a mountain goat for the past 19 days. After the fatal accident where I lost my mom, Bentley was last seen running down hill from the accident. For the past 3 days he has been spotted far far above the accident site, laying amongst the rocks along the ridge of the mountain. Peering down at the Jeep wreckage, patiently waiting for his family to return. This morning, I left Pueblo, CO at 4:45am and drove the accident site in Buena Vista, CO. Along with a team, we spent hours hiking to the top of said mountain. I have never, and I mean never, done such dangerous and rewarding activity in my entire life. We were able to spot Bentley early in the day, a few hours in, I came within 30-40 feet of him. He wouldn’t come to me, but seemed interested. Eventually his fear got the best of him and he made his way to the ridge (top). I slowly but surely followed him, upon reaching the summit, I could see him watching me. I got close to him, laid down, unpacked some items to eat and a new toy I’d purchased from him. He never moved an inch for over 15 minutes. Eventually I decided to give him some space, back off for a few minutes, and that got his attention. When I came back, him and I slowly altered walking few steps towards each other until finally I was able to convince him to come into my arms. And from then it was nothing but tears and celebration! Bentley is okay, he’s a little malnourished and dehydrated. But otherwise no noticeable injuries. Thank you to everyone who played a role in bringing this sweet boy home. I know the past 19 days, God and my beautiful momma have been keeping an eye on him. GOD IS SO GOOD

사고 지점에서 멀지 않은 곳에서 벤틀리를 발견한 것이다. 처음에는 주인인 사만다를 보고도 다가오지 않던 벤틀리는 이내 주인을 알아보고 다가왔고, 사고 19일 만에 찾은 벤틀리와 사만다의 재회에 많은 이들이 눈물을 흘렸다.

벤틀리는 19일가량을 혼자 헤맸지만 약간의 탈수증상과 사고로 다리를 살짝 저는 것을 빼고는 건강한 상태였다.

4일, 사만다는 벤틀리가 이제는 사고 당시의 충격을 딛고 한 번도 집을 떠난 적 없었던 듯 태평한 강아지 상태로 돌아왔다는 소식을 전했다.

사만다는 '벤틀리를 집으로' 페이지에 글을 남겨 "친절한 도움의 손길을 주신 분들에게 다시 한번 감사드린다"는 인사를 전했다.
