South Korea's Defense Ministry has reaffirmed the possibility of North Korea's nuclear or ballistic missile test sometime around the ruling Worker's Party congress set to kick off on Friday.
The ministry's speculation was made in a report submitted to the parliamentary defense committee on Tuesday.
The report also said the North's Punggye-ri nuclear test site appears completely ready for a new blast.
The ministry added that it does not rule out accidental South-North military conflicts, taking into account recently increased movements in the North along the demilitarized zone which bisects the Korean Peninsula.
