◇ Won-hwa Lee: I also remember this very well. This case became known socially when a woman, a mother of two sons, filed a complaint saying that she was sexually assaulted and forced to engage in prostitution by her husband, so could you first point out the situation at that time?

◆Seo Chang-gon: Around October 2014, Lee, a woman, held a press conference at a church in Seoul. The content at the time was that she and her two sons had been sexually assaulted by their husbands and others for more than 10 years and were forced to engage in prostitution. However, after the press conference, the issue of the case seemed to be growing, but it was increasingly forgotten as the three mothers and daughters did not cooperate with the request for coverage or the investigation. However, the controversy began around June 2015 when Lee posted an article titled "I'm a dirty woman but I'm a mother" on the online community.

◇ Won-hwa Lee: Not only my husband, but also my father-in-law, brother-in-law, Olke, and even my parents-in-law were identified as the perpetrators. So what she's saying is that the whole family has been deliberately and meticulously abusing her and her two sons and three daughters.

◆ Seo Chang-gon: Yes, that's right. It was about two sons, as well as herself, being sexually assaulted by dozens of local people, including her husband, father, and relatives for a long time. The father imprisoned his son and forced him to engage in prostitution using drugs. It was also a shocking claim that there were famous religious people, medical personnel, and politicians among the perpetrators.

◇ Won-hwa Lee: It's very shocking to hear again, but I think it's a situation where you have to report to the police, not just reveal it.

◆Seo Chang-gon: Yes. Before holding the press conference, Lee actually reported her husband to the police, claiming that he had his two teenage sons do the same thing from the age of 5 and 6 after giving him drugs containing stimulants around September 2014. After the press conference, 44 people, including the pastor's father-in-law, his parents, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, were sued by the police on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes. However, at the time, the media did not deal well with the case and did not hear that the investigation had begun. Then, suspicions arose that someone was covering up such a serious incident. As a result, Internet cafes have been opened among some Internet users to demand a thorough investigation. Members of the cafe engaged in various activities to make the case public, including appointing a lawyer and launching a cost-raising campaign to help the three mothers and daughters.

◇ Won-hwa Lee: It seems that this woman's husband and father-in-law were all pastors?

◆Seo Chang-gon: Yes, that's right. Both my husband and father-in-law were Protestant pastors. And as news related to the father-in-law's sex crimes was revealed, netizens' suspicions continued to grow. In the meantime, the media did not deal with the case well at the time, and rumors began to circulate that giant forces were covering up the case behind the scenes as it was deleted when writing a story about the case in Internet comments. However, public opinion at the time did not unconditionally take Lee's side. There were criticisms that Lee's claim was strange because the more he spoke, the more the damage and the duration of the damage increased, and he did not present medical records even though he had been sexually assaulted for 10 years. In this situation, it was reported that Lee won the divorce and custody lawsuit with her husband. The husband lost the first trial after being found to have been assaulted, and Lee divorced his husband and took custody of his son after his appeal was rejected.

◆Seo Chang-gon: That's right. A TV investigative report program started covering this case. At the time, public opinion felt that the ongoing police investigation was too insufficient compared to the overheating interest, and many people wanted to cover the case on the broadcast program to solve their questions. Since then, viewers have been constantly requesting to cover the incident through the broadcaster's website and phone. When it became known that the program actually covered the incident, many people expected the program to scratch their itch. But there's a huge twist here. There was a short break while the three mothers and daughters were interviewing the TV investigation program, and the son, who thought the camera was off, suddenly changed his attitude and began to evaluate each other's acting and attitude. ◆ Seo Chang-gon: Yes, that's right. Her husband's violence was true, but the rest of the allegations of rape imprisonment, drug enforcement, and prostitution were completely groundless and false.

At the time, Lee claimed that her husband filmed a video of her sexual assault damage and distributed it on the Internet, but the police investigation only confirmed a harmonious family video. Even some of the people Lee sued were people he didn't know at all with Lee.

◇ Won-hwa Lee: But why on earth did you do that?

◆ Seo Chang-gon: According to the family, Lee had a serious illness of unknown cause in the past, and when he did what the shaman Kim told him to do, he got better, and Lee blindly followed the shaman from then on.

◇ Won-hwa Lee: So a shaman named Kim asked this woman to sue her husband? If so, why did you do that again?

◆Seo Chang-gon: In the recording file secured by the police through the seizure and search, Kim ordered Lee to file a complaint, not from me, but from the god of my grandfather. It is said that if I don't do what I'm told, my two sons will get hurt or die. Police also confirmed that Lee's hundreds of millions of won worth of assets were handed over to Kim around 2009, and believed that Lee spread absurd facts and sued his ex-husband and family because Kim actively forced or ordered him to pay.

◆Seo Chang-gon: Yes, that's right. Lee and her husband were once found out while stealing the property of the church where their father-in-law was a pastor and were kicked out. The property he stole at that time was so large that he didn't have to worry about money for the rest of his life, so Lee disposed of the stolen property while going around with Kim, a shaman, not his husband. In this situation, he made false interviews and false accusations under the orders of a shaman to bury his husband and father-in-law. ◆Seo Chang-gon: In the first trial in June 2016, Kim, who was a shaman, was sentenced to nine years in prison and Lee, his mother, was sentenced to three years in prison. Considering the social repercussions, Kim, a shaman, was sentenced to a very strong sentence for innocence, even higher than the prosecution's sentence of eight years in prison. Later, Kim's appeal, a shaman, was rejected at the appeal trial, and Lee was reduced from three years in prison to two years in prison for severe delusional disorder. And on March 15, 2017, at the Supreme Court, Lee was sentenced to two years in prison and Kim, a shaman, was sentenced to nine years in prison.

◇ Won-hwa Lee: But the family said that this woman mentioned that she was a victim of prostitution and even drove people she didn't know as perpetrators. Have you ever filed a complaint with false accusations?

◆ Seo Chang-gon: Yes, Lee's husband at the time claimed that he would sue Lee for innocence when the police expressed no suspicion about Lee's accusation against him. In addition, Lee was sued by the Republic of Korea to return the expenses for public defenders. At that time, Lee filed a false complaint against more than 40 people, including her husband and father-in-law, and five public defenders participated in the investigation 22 times and provided counseling. The state paid 5.2 million won in compensation to the public defender in taxes, but as their claims were later found to be innocent, the state asked Lee and the shaman Kim to pay for the public defender's expenses and won the case.

◇ Won-hwa Lee: Most of all, I can say that this woman's children, this woman, was gaslighted by Kim, a shaman, but the children were gaslighted by their mother, too. I was even forced to lie, not true, but isn't this abuse?

◆Seo Chang-gon: Yes, that's right. In fact, Lee was accused of child abuse for injecting his son with crimes against humanity to make false statements as if he had been sexually assaulted by his husband and did not send him to school, and the court actually saw it as child abuse. Since then, Lee has been banned from access to his children, and they have been staying on their mother's side and receiving psychological treatment. Since then, his father, Heo, has steadily visited his children and spent time together, restoring his relationship with them. As a result, the children were released from the brainwashing of Lee and the shaman Kim, and even though they were never sexually assaulted by their father 98 days after the incident, Kim voluntarily confessed the truth, saying he threatened to live apart from his mother if he did not make a false statement.
