Trump names David Sax as White House 'AI, virtual currency tsar'

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said he will appoint David Sax, former chief operating officer of PayPal, to the White House's "artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency tsar."

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Sax would "lead the policy of artificial intelligence and the Virtual Asset Management Bureau, two important areas for the future of U.S. competitiveness."

In addition, Sax said he would focus on "making the United States a clear global leader in both areas" and "protecting free speech online and protecting Big Tech from bias and censorship."

Trump added that Sax "will secure the clarity that the crypto industry has been demanding and lay the legal groundwork for it to thrive in the United States."

U.S. billionaire Sax is the founder and former chief operating officer of corporate social networking service Yammer.

Mr Trump said Sax would also lead the Presidential Advisory Committee on Science and Technology.
