"Seoraksan Mountain pine trees are on the verge of dying...Climate change is to blame"

A study found that about half of the pine trees in Seoraksan Mountain are on the verge of drying up due to climate change.

According to a study conducted by the National Park Service, 480 pine trees in Taebaeksan Mountain, 41 on Seoraksan Mountain, 11 on Odaesan Mountain, and 4 on Chiaksan Mountain died.

The researchers also predicted 192 points in Odaesan Mountain, 79 points in Sobaeksan Mountain, 37 points in Taebaeksan Mountain, 33 points in Chiaksan Mountain, and 26 points in Seoraksan Mountain as predicted points for pine death.

In the case of Seoraksan Mountain, 47.8% of the total pine forest area was analyzed as a predicted area for death, and the researchers believe that death occurs due to the stress that appears during the pine growth process.

The researchers emphasized that considering that national parks are a national protected area and have high ecological preservation value, it is necessary to quickly explore factors that affect the ecosystem, such as pine trees, and find solutions to the problem.
