There's no end to the malicious comments...120,000 cases of cyber defamation and defamation over the past five years

Amid the constant online "bad comments" problem, the number of cyber defamation and insults received by police over the past five years has been found to be close to 120,000 cases.

The National Police Agency said there have been more than 118,000 cases of cyber defamation and insults in the past five years and 80,000 arrests.

By year, from 2019 to 2022, the number of arrests increased from 16,000 to 29,000 every year, but decreased slightly to 24,000 last year, and the number of arrests steadily increased from 11,000 in 2019 to 23,990 last year.

Earlier, as malicious comments became a social controversy, domestic portal sites such as Naver have abolished entertainment and sports news comments one after another since 2019, but recently, online harassment has continued to leave malicious comments on the SNS of the person concerned.

In fact, Netflix survival show "Black and White Cook" cast member Sunkyung Longguest recently received more than 8,000 malicious comments in one YouTube video alone.
