EU requests information on YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok 'recommendation algorithm'

Foreign media said the European Commission has sent a request for information on content recommendation algorithms to YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok.

The Commission asked YouTube and Snapchat to submit information about the parameters used when algorithms that recommend specific content to users work.

It also called for an explanation of whether the recommendation algorithm amplifies the risks associated with users' mental health, protection of minors, and formation of election and civil discourse.

As a result, YouTube and Snapchat must also answer what they have done to mitigate potential risks, such as the spread of illegal content due to content recommendation methods.

This request for information is in the pre-EU's official investigation into the Digital Service Act.

These companies are required to submit their responses to the Commission by the 15th of next month and could face fines if they provide insufficient or false information.
