A team of South Korean researchers has developed technology to mass culture cells to help hair grow.

There exists a small quantity of dermal papilla cells in the hair follicle.

But the cells play a key role in forming hair.

On the back of the lab rats that are transplanted with the cells, much hair is seen growing.

But it's not easy to utilize the cells as its quantity has been too small.

The South Korean research team has successfully cultured the cells in large quantity.

[Sung Jong-Hyuk, professor, College of Pharmacy, Yonsei University]
"In a low-oxygen condition, dermal papilla cells rapidly multiply in culture. When injected into the skin of the mouse, the viability of the cells increases significantly."

The research team said the cells, produced in large quantity and injected into the scalp, can help hair grow.

The team expected clinical tests on humans to be conducted next year.
