The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), is set to kick off its 22nd edition on October 12.

Director Shin Su-Won's mystery drama "Glass Garden", starring stellar actress Moon Geun-Young, has been chosen as the opening film of this year.

"Glass Garden" revolves around a seclusive bioenergetics researcher's love and endeavors, and an obscure novelist writing a story about her.

"Glass Garden" is to be the third Korean movie to open the festival.

"I never attended (the BIFF) with my own film. This time, however, I'm very happy to attend the film festival with my own work which has been chosen as the opening film."

“Love Education” by female Taiwanese director Sylvia Chang is set to close the festival. The film is known to tell a story about three women from different generations tracing China's history.

It is the first time in its 22-year history that the festival is to open and close with works helmed by female directors.

The festival organizers said a total 298 films from 75 countries will be screened this year.

Various events are planned to remember its late deputy executive director and senior programmer Kim Ji-Seok who died in Cannes during his visit to the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Jennifer Lawrence, the lead actress for the Hollywood film "Mother", and Japanese film director Hirokazu Koreeda are expected to visit.
