Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the next generation of its hydrogen-powered vehicle which is able to travel farther between charges.

The new unnamed fuel cell electric vehicle model, a sport utility vehicle, is expected to hit the market around the beginning of next year.

Hyundai said it has sharply improved the performances of the upcoming fuel cell electric SUV model, compared to its predecessor Tucson ix FCE SUV introduced in 2013. The fuel cell's efficiency of the new model has been boosted to 60 percent.

The new SUV model is capable of traveling up to 580 kilometers on a single charge.

Hyundai also said the new model is an ultimate eco-friendly car enough to be called a "running air cleaner". It emits clean air in the process of producing electricity.

The government plans to supply 10,000 units of hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2020. However, the prices of such fuel cell electric vehicles are still very high and there are only five hydrogen stations across the country now.
