South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-Se met
with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi yesterday (Thursday) to discuss a response to North Korea's latest nuclear test and long-range rocket launch brushing aside U.N. resolutions.
Yun met with Wang on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany and clearly stated that the next U.N. Security Council resolution to impose sanctions on North Korea needs to be tough enough to be the final of its kind.
Explaining South Korea's withdrawal from the Kaesong Industrial Complex, the sole joint inter-Korean economic zone, Yun requested that China, as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, play a role in ending the isolated Pyongyang regime's nuclear weapons program.
Wang responded that China will prudently make security policies that take into consideration the concerns of neighboring countries.
He also expressed Beijing's concerns over recently-announced consultations between South Korea and the U.S. regarding the deployment of the U.S. Army's THAAD defense system onto Korean soil.
