〔안정원의 건축 칼럼〕 숲의 경계에서 수평적 조망성을 극대화하고 이색적인 전망 플랫폼 3

●●● 멋진 세상 속 건축디자인_ 중국 지린성 쑹화 호수를 배경으로 들어선 이색적인 전망 플랫폼, ‘스테이지 오브 포레스트(STAGE OF FOREST)’… 숲의 경계에서 수평적 조망성을 극대화하고 수직적 역동성을 꾀한 캔틸레버형 매스가 돋보여

베이징을 근간으로 뉴욕, 시카고, 런던, UAE, 주요 동남아시아 도시, 상하이 등지에서 폭넓게 활동한 건축가 왕 슈오는 OMA 베이징사무소의 프로젝트 아키텍처로 몸담았다. 2007년 메타프로젝트와 메타리서치를 설립하여 학제 간의 협력과 심층적인 연구를 진행하고 있다.

>> Wang Shuo Founding Partner of META-Project, META-Research, NUBIS-innovatio. Wang Shuo is an architect, researcher and curator based in Beijing. He received his B. Arch. from Tsinghua University in Beijing and M. Arch. from Rice University. He has practiced extensively in New York, Rotterdam and Beijing in the field of architecture and urbanism research. Projects located from New York, Chicago, London, UAE to major South East Asia cities, Shanghai and Beijing. He had worked for OMA on various large scale projects including RAK Gateway City - which won the 2009 Cityscape and International Business Award, BBC London headquarter strategic planning, and Interlace – a residential project in Singapore. As project architect for OMA’s Beijing office, he worked on the tallest tower complex in Bangkok– MahaNakhon. Wang Shuo founded in 2007 with his partners, META-Project and META-Research, a duo parallel contemporary urban culture initiative, to carry on continuous and in-depth research regarding Chinese urban development; to bridge research and design with interdisciplinary collaboration; and to realize new prototype communities in contemporary cities. The work of Wang Shuo is characterized by a research driven approach. One of his main interests of research has been the unprecedented intensifying urban dynamics in the transformation of contemporary metropolis in Asia as well as new forms of emergent urban/collective spaces, and under such context, the shift of “contemporary” way of life through the progressive practice of young generation in the city. He has developed a series of urban research projects and is actively extending the idea into multiple dimensions of contemporary medium, including writing, video, website, art installation and exhibition. Often fueled by the outcome of META-Research’s sustaining investigation in the unique social-culture potential of the contemporary cities, META-Project’s practice aims at establish a new relationship between architecture and its social environment.
