〔안정원의 디자인 칼럼〕 원형 직물 구조물이 연출하는 환상적이고 추상적인 세계 1

● 멋진 세상 속 건축디자인_ 원형 직물 구조물이 연출하는 환상적이고 추상적인 세계, ‘원더 월(wonderWALL)’

원더월(wonderWALL)은 리스본의 콜롬보 쇼핑몰 내에 설치된 전시공간이다. 약 2만개에 달하는 희고 검은 직물이 원형 구조물을 토대로 줄무늬 형태로 길게 늘어서 있는 형상이다.

이 임시 전시관은 인터랙티브 조각가인 젠 르윈(Jen Lewin)이 제작한 작품인 ‘더 풀(The Pool)’을 내부에 놓고 작품을 에워싸는 구조물을 실험성과 혁신성을 보여주는 포르투갈의 건축스튜디오 LIKEarchitects가 디자인한 것이다.

외부에서 볼 때 전시물을 에워싸는 원통형 구조물을 통해 예술작품의 구심성은 더욱 강조되며 공공장소의 기류와 함께 끊임없이 진동한다.

투과성을 가진 외관에 의해 공간의 출입구는 분산되며 방문객들이 공간을 찾고자 하는 의지에 따라 입장할 수 있다는 행동의 의식을 불러일으킨다.

LIKEarchitects is a Portuguese-based multidisciplinary office, headed by Diogo Aguiar and João Jesus, which focus in art and architecture, specializing in temporary interventions, urban provocative structuresandinnovativearchitecturalsystems. Their innovative practice, provocative and experimental, regards the socioeconomic environment, and positions between the fields of art and architecture. Using ephemeral installations as their primary medium, LIKEarchitects design spatial and material experiences, fostering a new speech in architectural practice, associating unique thinking with efficient creation. LIKEarchitects work has been recognized internacionally, being rewarded with the Archdaily Building of the Year 2010, Leonardo – Minsk Biennale of Young Architects 2013, and International Space Design Award - Idea Tops 2013, among others, and, for example, nominated for Detail Prize 2011 and Prémis FAD 2013. Their creations have originated interest all around the world, being published in architecture magazines such as Blueprint, c3, Detail, Domus, and Le Moniteur Architecture and in important general media like CNN, The Guardian or LA Times.
